RECREATION AND EVENTS SPACE
People have used the Docks as an unofficial recreation space for years but the site isn’t safe or accessible. At the end of October 2024 a planning application was submitted for a new Recreation and Events space at the centre of the site.Permission is sought for creation of new greenspace, pedestrian paths, seating and areas of hard standing that can be used for events and markets. The plans will deliver a space that is safe to use and a focal point for a wide range of activities and events.

Works will be funded through the Scottish Government Vacant and Derelict Land Improvement Programme and are currently due for completion in Summer 2026. The works will represent an initial round of investment on the site and will act as a catalyst for other improvements on the site including restoration of the Pumphouse.
